Codecademy

Ever wanted to learn Html, CSS, JavaScriptPHP, Python, Ruby, jQuery? – Well it has just got a whole lot easier thanks to codeacademy.com. This ingenious site has been designed to make learning code accessible, fun and systematic.
Not having the funds or time to pay for and attend an expensive course, I have struggled for years trying to get the focus to sit down and follow some instructional website or code for dummies book telling me about the theory behind coding languages and where to start. I have ended up frustrated and uninspired! If only Codecademy was around 10 years ago! I honestly cannot express how impressed I am with this site!
Not only is it FREE but the methodical style that the lessons have been set out means that students can make steady progress from the basics right through to advanced projects. There forum is also a wealth of information where you can not only ask questions but also join groups of like-minded individuals, getting you networking from the word go.

The concept is simple and not new at all, however the delivery method is. The lessons are set out so that on one single page the student has an instructional sidebar on the left, which delivers the lessons, instructions and hints. On the main section of the page is the text editor for entering the code, with a preview pane showing floating on the right had side.
As well as the impressive layout the lessons are fun – they get you working with code straight away, making you think about what you are doing. It can get tough if you get stuck though, as there is no sneak preview to show you what the end code should look like to get you to the next lesson. If you do get stuck, take a deep breath read the instructions again and you should be just fine.
To keep you motivated there is also a gaming aspect to your learning, as you earn badges and points along the way, just like being back in boy scouts/girl guides! So if you’re a fanatical gamer like me, you will love this site!
So, what are you waiting for, get your coding head on and get to it …….
